Metro trains to go green

The city , which is used to seeing Namma Metro's purple and silver trains running between Byappanahalli and M.G. Road, must now prepare to see "green trains " running on Reach-3, between Hessarghatta Cross and Swastik in Malleswaram, officially called the Metro's Green Line.

Metro's green trains made their maiden run on the 1.2 km-long test track of Reach-3 at Peenya depot on Wednesday. “Once Metro becomes operational over the entire 42.3 km stretch of Phase-1 in the city, it will be easier for passengers to identify the trains running on different routes by their colour. The trains running between Byappanahalli and M.G. Road are painted purple and silver, because this section comes under the East-West corridor, the Purple Line,” explained a senior official of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).

The testing of the trains for the Green Line began at around 10 am and several runs were conducted in the presence of Metro officials, who wanted to be satisfied that all systems were in good working order.

“The test is being conducted to make sure there are no jerks when the trains are running at full speed. These tests will go on for a few more days and then we will start the process of certification. Once the trains are approved, operating systems and traction on the viaducts, we will begin trial runs on Reach-3,” the officer added. Fortunately there were no hiccups on Wednesday and the trains ran smoothly on the test tracks.
