Man robs bank, shoots customer dead
A gun-toting unidentified man robbed a bank of Rs 10 lakh and killed a customer, who had come to deposit the amount, in Chikkabanavara on Monday afternoon.
The victim, Muralidhar (45), was a petrol bank manager. He died of his wounds later at a hospital. The Soladevanahalli police, under whose jurisdiction the crime occurred, said that the incident occurred around 3.45 pm at the Chikkabanavara branch of Corporation Bank. A man, believed to be around 25 years, barged into the bank, locked the front doors from inside and whipped out a gun. He threatened the staff and customers, and made them stand in a corner. He also snatched the mobile phones of some of them to prevent them from alerting the police. He went to the cash counter, where Mr Muralidhar was waiting to deposit Rs 10 lakh cash. The robber tried to snatch the cash bag, but Mr Muralidhar resisted and was shot in the hand.
The bank manager around 4 pm managed to inform the police, and sensing danger, the robber took only Mr Muralidhar’s cash bag and sped.
A profusely bleeding Mr Muralidhar was rushed to the nearby NRR Hospital, where he died later. When the hospital was asked about a man dying of an injury in the hand, the doctors said the victim may have died of acute shock, a condition called ‘Hypovolaemic shock’ in medical terms.
Joint commissioner of police Pronab Mohanty, Deputy Commissioner of police (west) S.N. Siddramappa and other officers visited the spot. The police used sniffer dogs, but they did not lead the cops anywhere. The bank had CCTV cameras, but no security guards. The police are going through the CCTV footage to get clues on the robber’s identity.
The shocking part is that none of those present in the bank noticed the robber slipping away.
