Man jumps off 22nd floor
A 31-year-old man committed suicide by jumping off the 22nd floor of V.V. Tower on Dr Ambedkar Veedhi in Cubon Park police limits on Thursday morning. Police said the deceased, identified as Narasimha, a resident of Raghavendra Colony in Srinagar, was depressed as he was unemployed for the last two months ever since he met with an accident. He was also unable to come to terms with the death of his close friend.
Narasimha was married 15 months ago and his wife is in the ninth month of her pregnancy. He is also survived by his parents and three sisters. An identity card found in his pocket said he was working as a salesman for Mahaveer Sales Corporation in Chamarajpet. Before taking the fatal fall, he had gone to a Raghavendra Math near his residence along with a cousin in the morning. Narasimhaiah, the father of the deceased, said his son was depressed since the last two months after he had fractured his right leg in an accident and had been advised bed rest.
Ravindra, an eyewitness, said: “Before committing suicide, Narasimha was sitting near the entrance of the V.V. Main Tower observing the building for nearly 20 minutes. Around 11.50 am, he jumped from the 22nd floor (terrace) and crash-landed on a black Mahindra Xylo SUV (KA-02-MD-5704) which was allotted to the Director of Municipal Administration Mr M.S. Ravi Shankar. The impact was such that the rear portion of the SUV was completely damaged. Before falling, one of the legs of the deceased got severed after it came in contact with the ledge of the ground floor. The severed leg fell near the main gate, nearly 50 feet away from the SUV. A police constable attached to the Special Enforcement Cell, which has its office at V.V. Tower, immediately alerted the police control room,” he added.
Meanwhile, the V.V. Tower police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Bowring Hospital mortuary and the SUV was seized by Cubbon Park police. Onlookers said the deceased was holding a bunch of papers in his hand, which are being verified. “We will also have to go through the CCTV footage to see if the victim went on the terrace through the rear entrance. A case of unnatural death has been registered”, said the police.
