Malleswaram Metro work to take off soon
With the Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, approving the construction of the 66 metre-long viaduct crossing the Indian Railway line at Malleswaram, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has requested the Bangalore Division of Indian Railways to accord power blocks from September 22.
“An amount of `2.84 crore has also been paid to the Indian Railways as per their demands. The work at Malleshwaram will begin shortly and it will take six months for completion of construction work here,” said a senior BMRCL official.
The South Western Railway has also been asked to restrict the speed of trains to 20 kmph on both the tracks in the section where the 66-meter viaduct span is being constructed. The Railways has said that this won’t impact the schedule of trains moving to and fro Yeswanthpur.
“As far I know the trains running on Malleshwaram tracks are moving at a restricted speed as the tracks are within the city. The trains are passing at a speed of 15- 20 kmph. There are no run-through trains passing through Malleshwaram tracks and the speed has to be restricted because other stations within the city limits are en route. The span work will not impact the time or frequency of trains,” said a senior Railway official of SWR. The construction of the bridge is vital for opening of the line from Sampige Road Metro station to Peena and Hesserghatta Cross metro station and completion of work on this span will determine the opening of the Reach-3 line.
