Mall-like makeover for Metro stations soon
Soon, commuters on Namma Metro can grab beverages or take away short eats from all the Metro stations on Reach 1. One can even get beauty treatment, except body massage, at the salons.
Considering the fast-paced life of Bengalureans and Metro commuters, the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited has planned a few retail outlets at all the Metro stations to leverage on the ‘Namma Metro’ brand and also as a potential source of non-fare box revenue. The BMRCL has floated tenders for outlets of essential retail products and services which would help commuters during the commute, according to Mr Vasantha Rao, General Manager (Finance), BMRCL.
Coin-operated vending machines will dispense food, beverage items but consuming such eatables or beverages will not be allowed. The package will carry the message “Consumption of food on trains is not allowed”, he said. Other activities which will be allowed at Metro stations include money changing or forex, pharmacy, laundry, repair shops, florist, take-aways, books or gifts, salon (except body massage), quick service restaurant and cafeterias. The last date for participating in the tender is till 1 pm on September 14. For details, log on to www.bmrc.co.in.
