‘Make me CM, or I’ll break BJP’

Former CM B.S. Yeddyurappa, flew to New Delhi on Tuesday for a meeting with the BJP top brass, 48 hours after he came close to breaking ties with the BJP and launching his own party — the Karnataka Janata Party. Soon after his arrival, the ex-CM met BJP in-charge for Karnataka Dharmendra Pradhan followed by another meeting with Mr Pradhan and senior party leader Arun Jaitley. Mr Yeddyurappa is pressing for his reinduction as CM rather than party state president, sources said.

“When we called him, he (Yeddyurappa) told us that another meeting may take place around midnight where party president Nitin Gadkari will be present,” the sources said. Mr Yeddyurappa has been instructed by national leaders to keep his head down till the Supreme Court hears the plea of the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) for a CBI inquiry into the illegal mining charges on Friday, sources revealed.

Meanwhile, BJP sources said BSY shelved plans for the new party after an all important call from Mr Gadkari on Sunday that made him change his mind. The planned show of strength and the flexing of muscles by the BSY camp at the Hubli birthday bash fizzled out after that, with BSY dumping his 11-page drafted speech which would have announced the launch of his new party to reiterate his continued loyalty to the party.

A spiritual guru too reportedly played a role in the rapprochement with the BJP top brass. “The guru called him Monday night at around 11.30 pm and convinced him to meet central leaders,” said a source. “BSY is set on tabling a Rs 1 lakh crore budget this year which he regards as a crucial milestone for him. If the Central leadership lets him down by denying him the CM post, he is still considering scuttling the Budget session scheduled to begin on March 20,” added the source.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
