Mahantesh: CM for cops’ probe

A day after deputy director of Co-operative Societies Audit Department and senior KAS officer S.P. Mahantesh succumbed to injuries from a brutal assault by unknown assailants, Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda ruled out a probe by Criminal Investigation Department (CID), claiming that the city police would crack the murder in a couple of days.

Mr Sadananda Gowda said the local police had secured vital leads in the case. “The police need two more days to bring the culprits to book. At the moment, it does not look like the murder is due to work related factors,’’ he said. Home minister, R. Ashok said a special investigation team was looking out for two people in connection with the brutal assault of Mr Mahantesh. The assailants were already identified, he said after chairing a meeting with city police commissioner, Jyotiprakash Mirji, and other officers of the city police. “It seems that two of the accused have left the state and a team of police officers has gone to pick them up. Once the assailants are arrested, we will get the exact picture of what happened,” Mr Ashok added.

KAS officer murder- 4 rounded up?
The police is said to have rounded up four people in connection with the murder of 48-year-old S P Mahantesh. The police however refused to divulge any information about whom they had taken into custody, but Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Jyoti Prakash Mirji said “police have secured vital clues and the culprits would be arrested shortly.”

The Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), T. Suneel Kumar speaking to Deccan Chronicle said, “Pointing fingers saying that the police are not keen on investigation is false. Only yesterday did we find out from the family that Mr. Mahantesh was attacked twice. On the day Mr Mahantesh was attacked, a man had informed the hotel security who in turn informed the police. We are trying to trace that person.” Mr Mahantesh was Deputy Director of the audit wing in the state’s Cooperative department and had reported irregularities in various societies involving a few political and other officers.
