M’lore cops ban all beach parties

Just days after the dastardly attack on young men and women at a home stay off Mangalore by a Hindutva organisation, the Mangalore police have issued orders to tourism authorities and owners of beachside restaurants and guesthouses not to hold any birthday or weekend parties to avoid attacks by the moral brigade.
Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project CEO Yathish Bykampadi said the circular, issued by the Panambur police on Saturday, asked them not to hold birthday or weekend parties. The circular has been issued exactly a week after some 20 Hindu Jagaran Vedike members barged into Morning Mist Home Stay at Padil on the outskirts of the city and beat up young women and men at a birthday party. A livid Mr Bykampadi said, “Instead of bringing people together, we are being served with such letters.”
He said similar letters have been sent to a guesthouse and a beach development project in the same jurisdiction. But Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh seemed to be unaware of the development. “The police department has not sent any such letter or circular. These are just rumours,” he said. On Sunday, some police stations in the coastal district held a meeting with members of right-wing saffron organisations and warned them against violating laws and going on flash attacks.
“Members of right-wing organisations were called to the police station and were told to alert us if they come to know of any illegal activity, instead of indulging in moral policing,” a source in the police department confirmed.
