Lovelorn Manipuri student kills self

Close on the heels of the mysterious death of Manipuri engineering student Richard Loitam, another engineering student from Manipur has died in the city , this time over a love affair gone sour.
The deceased Jackio Heisnam (22), a fourth semester mechanical engineering student of Bangalore Engineering College at Chandapura near Electronics City, was staying in a 2-bedroom rented flat at Venkateshwara Layout along with friends Vimat Singh, a student, Rishakantha, a private firm employee, and Sapna, an airhostess. Sapna was not present at the time of the incident.
‘He tried to scare girlfriend’
Jackio’s local guardian Mr Toni Longjam, the general-secretary of Manipuri Students’ Organisation, told Deccan Chronicle: “I know Jackio since we were kids. He was reserved by nature and had no bad habits.
He was in a relationship with Sera Phina (19), a II semester BA student at Jyothi Nivas College in Koramangala.
They were serious about the relationship. Sera was staying in a paying guest facility in Madiwala, but spent most of the time with Jackio at his flat,” Mr Toni said.
“On Thursday night, they had an argument and she was packing her bags to leave the place.
He felt she was neglecting him and was not answering his calls. Jackio threatened her that if she did not take him seriously, he would end his life.
He brought a nylon rope and hung himself from the ceiling fan around 11.45 pm. He planned to just threaten her, but died.
“It took Sera a few minutes to realise that he had indeed committed suicide. She ran to the kitchen and brought a knife, cut the rope, and shouted for help.
He was taken to St John’s Hospital around 12.30 am on Friday where he was declared brought dead,” Mr Toni said.
Sera said: “On Thursday, we went out shopping, had dinner and returned to his flat around 11.30pm. All was fine till then. He suddenly picked up an argument over why I did not take his calls.
We would often have such arguments and later patch up. But last night, it took a different turn,” she added.
The MICO Layout police have informed Jackio’s parents. The police have summoned a team of FSL experts to collect evidence from the house.
