Loitam’s father pushes for CBI probe
“We are not going to sit back after what the histopathology report stated to be the cause of our son's death. We want the case to be handed over to the CBI”, an indignant Dr Rajesh Loitam, the father of Richard Loitam, told Deccan Chronicle.
He also said that he had gone through the final autopsy report which said that the cause of death was undetermined. “It was because of the hostel authorities' negligence that I lost my son. The police should not have just stuck to the autopsy reports. They should have arrested the two accused, when the hostel warden, in his complaint, clearly told the police that he suspects that Richard died because he was punched by two other students - Vishal Banerjee and Sayed Afzal. The Karnataka government should not just close the case and instead hand it over to the CBI."
Meanwhile, Manipuri Meitei Association President Mr Om Prakash has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on Saturday. In the memorandum, he has put forth two demands - to hand over the case to the CBI and since the report that was submitted to the police on April 17 said the cause of death was “undetermined”, a second opinion should be sought.
Various organizations are planning to stage a protest demanding that the government to hand over Richard’s case to the CBI, at Town Hall at around 4 pm on Sunday. “If the government does not take any serious action, we will have to take some drastic steps”, said Mr Om Prakash.
