Lift crashes at tech park, 15 injured

In a shocking incident, 15 people were injured when a lift collapsed at a technology park of SJR Group in Mahadevapura police limits on Tuesday. The victims were immediately taken to Vydehi Hospital in Whitefield where they underwent treatment for fractures and other injuries. It is learnt that three of the victims were not injured at all. The building where the incident took place is located opposite the Satya Sai Baba hospital in ITPL. Six of the injured who were treated at Vydehi Hospital are Sanjeev Pradkar (30), Arun Kumar (29), Somasekhar Bistha (30), Gangadhar Nayak (30), Ram Sharan (30) and Nikhlesh Kumar Yadav (30). The other injured Prem Chand (25), Mohit Singh (30), Sunil Kumar (31), Josi Jhon (34), Nithin Rai (29), Sesha Sai (38), Vijay Kumar (34), Shiva Kumar (27) and Avishanth Pandey (30) are being treated at various other hospitals.

The incident took place around 2.30 pm on Tuesday when 15 people were in the lift in Tower-3 of the SJR Group Tech Park. The lift is maintained by Kone Company and had a carrying capacity of 20 people. However, at the time when the lift collapsed, there were only 16 people inside and it is still not known what caused the accident. The victims are from various IT companies in the tech park. Among the injured, three belong to G4 Security company while seven are working with Unisys.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Dr Manoj Kumar Shukla of Vydehi Institute of Medical Science and Research Centre, said: “Around 2.45 pm, around 15 people were brought to the hospital and the victims were immediately attended to. Most of them had fractures, ligament tear and multiple fractures in their lower limbs. The condition of the patients is fine even though six people were critically injured with fractures.” Mahadevapura police has visited the spot and are recording the statement of security guards and maintenance personnel of the building.
