Law student drinks poison in front of BU registrar
Not allowed to write her exams, a fourth-semester law student allegedly attempted to end her life by consuming poison on the Central College campus on Saturday evening. The victim, Asha Govindraj (28) from Tumkur, was studying in Vidyodaya Law College. The incident took place around 4.30 pm after she met BU Registrar (Evaluation) Dr Subramanya to take permission to continue writing her examination. Since she was denied permission, Asha allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming metacid.
She was rushed to Bowring Hospital by security guards. College authorities denied that she consumed poison in front of the registrar and said that the security guards shifted her when they noticed her consuming the poison. Asha’s husband Govindraj, an interior decorator, said his wife was forced to write her fourth-semester exams in a private college. After writing two exams, the university did not allow her to continue writing the exams. She had met Dr. Subramanya more than a dozen times and requested him to allow her to write the exams.
“Around 4 pm, I dropped her at the college and told her I'd be back in some time. She went to meet the registrar and around 5.30 pm I got a call, saying she had consumed poison and had been shifted to hospital. She kept coming here to find out why she was not allowed to write the exam but did not get a clear answer,” he said.
