Land scam: CAG damns BSY, HDK
In a scathing indictment of the previous B.S. Yeddyurappa dispensation, which could effectively seal the comeback plans of the former chief minister, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has detailed in a report titled ‘Acquisition and Allotment of Land for Industrial Areas Development’, how the law was flouted in several cases of denotification of land.
The CAG report could turn into a millstone for the former chief minister and a key member of his Cabinet, as well as the present D.V. Sadananda Gowda government. It has also put the Janata Dal (S) in the dock for a similar violation of law during the regime of H.D. Kumaraswamy in 2006. The CAG observed that between November 2005, and April 2011, the government had denotified 563.13 acres of land.
“A few important cases of denotifications were examined during the audit and in these cases, the government had denotified the acquired land despite objections raised by the Board (Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board). These illustrative cases are example of flouting of laws and subversion of public interest and subjugating it to private interests.” The CAG in its report, mentioned that payments made for acquisition of land during 2006-11 need to be examined to assess the impact of violations and the loss to the state exchequer.
