KPCC chief douses letter ‘fire’
A day ahead of the KPCC general body meeting, state unit president Dr G. Parameshwar tried to douse the fire caused by his leaked letter to Shamanoor Shivashankarappa saying Mr Shivashankarappa was like his brother and a letter sent to him was not a showcause notice.
Addressing a press meet, Dr Parameshwar said, “I am ready to even apologise to Mr Shivashankarappa. Till this moment, I address him as Shankaranna. This being the case, how can I be rude to him by sending him a show-cause notice? I feel the contents of my letter have been deliberately misinterpreted."
While Dr Parameshwar and his camp have been trying hard to retain the KPCC chief’s post, the Lingayat group is trying hard to get Dr Parameshwar replaced. Their argument is that the party can come to power only if the KPCC is led by a Lingayat leader. On the letter sent to Mr Shivashankarappa, he said: “It is a routine way to seek the opinion of a leader on whether he or she can suggest an alternative in their absence. This practice exists for the last several decades. Sending such a letter to Mr Shivasankarappa does not mean we intend to remove him from his present post of KPCC treasurer," he said.
Dr Parmeshwar contended that Mr Shivashankarappa did not attend 12 of the 14 meetings convened by the party in the last couple of months forcing him to write the letter. He warned other leaders not to give a communal twist to this episode as it was a routine party affair.
