Killer SUV driver still elusive, but now photo with police
The Banaswadi traffic police have finally obtained the photograph of Manjula (38), who allegedly drove a brand new Toyota Fortuner over sleeping labourers on a footpath in HRBR Layout on March 12. One of the labourers died, while four others were injured in the horrific incident.
The police have dispatched the photo to all the police stations across the City and are on the lookout for her. The police have also sent the photo to all the airports to stop her from leaving the country. The police said Manjula could be evading arrest to obtain anticipatory bail in the case, but might have got delayed due to the advocates’ protest. The entire staff of traffic east police department is on the lookout for the accused, a senior police officer said.
Manjula, who was returning from a birthday party, had driven the SUV over the labourers sleeping on the foot path on 3rd ‘A’ Main in HRBR Layout near Kalyan Nagar. The police tracked down owner Raghu Patel, a petrol bunk owner, based on the number plates.
On the night of the accident, Mr Patel had given the car to his relative Ravi, who was attending a party in Kamanahalli. While driving Manjula back home, she had requested Ravi to let her drive the vehicle. She lost control and crushed the labourers. Ravi surrendered before the police and told them that he was introduced to Manjula at the party and he did not have much information about her whereabouts.
