It’s a poor show at IIT-JEE
Just a day after record SSLC results, students from Karnataka have fared poorly in the prestigious IIT-JEE exam conducted for admission to the 9,647 undergraduate seats in the 17 IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) in the country.
Experts as well as students blame the Pre-University (PU) department for the poor results, saying confusion over the question paper leak and postponement of the exam dates affected students’ performance in the exam.
No student from Bengaluru made it to the top hundred rankings.
Ganesh Ajjanagadde, a student of Pinnacle’s two-year integrated school programme from FIITJEE’s Bengaluru centre has topped the state with an all-India ranking of 149. He scored 314 marks out of 401.
Ajjanagadde wants to study electrical engineering at IIT-Bombay.
“I prepared hard for IIT-JEE and it paid off. The credit for this success goes to my parents and the coaching centre but I cannot miss thanking my friends, who encouraged me and showed faith in me. I would advice my juniors to never give up when faced with trouble. If you want to achieve something, you must work hard. There is no other way out,” he told this newspaper. Ajjanagadde finished his PU from Gear International School in the city.
Deepak, a student of city-based Deeksha Integrated Learning stood second in the state with an all-India ranking of 369. He too wants to join IIT-Bombay, to study computer science.
“I would like to study MBA after the UG. Deeksha Integrated Learning helped me to crack the IIT-JEE easily,” he said.
Two other students from the city, Sagar Honnungar (568 ranking) and Vidhya Ramaswamy (597), both from BASE, too got through.
Dr Sridhar, MD of Deeksha Integrated Learning, too blames PU board for the poor results of students in the state.
“In Andhra Pradesh, +2 exams were completed by March 18 and students had nearly a month to prepare for IIT-JEE. But in Karnataka, the II PUC final examination ended on April 8 and the very next day students wrote the IIT-JEE. In such a situation, how can you expect good results?” he asked.
