If you can’t run govt, we will: Court tells state
Taking the state government to task for not adhering to the Karnataka Civil Services Act while transferring government officials, the high court on Wednesday said, “If you cannot run the government in accordance with law, we (high court) will run the government.”
The court was hearing a case filed by a sub-registrar who had approached the court challenging the order of the state government transferring him. He has alleged that it was contrary to the rules stipulated under the State Civil Services Act.
“Tell the state government to pass an order relating to appointments, transfers, promotions and so on, as per the stipulated law and not based on any political influence and its whims and fancies. If they cannot, we will run the government in accordance with law,” the court said. The sub-registrar was replaced with a junior officer, who was earlier functioning as in-charge sub-registrar. He had approached the Karnataka Administration Tribunal, which had rejected his plea.
