‘I trust those who stood by me during tough times’
After remaining evasive throughout the day, beleaguered former chief minister, B. S. Yeddyurappa finally met BJP state president, K.S. Eshwarappa on Sunday evening at his Dollar's Colony residence, where he reportedly gave him a earful. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, source close to the BSY camp quoted Mr Yeddyurappa as saying, "I have come a long way after you all humiliated me in the past several months. I have done so much for the party but you have forgotten all of it and lost faith in me. Now, my friends and associates are suggesting that I float my own party."
Mr Eshwarappa then told him that he should make no such move as party central leaders were his ‘true friends’ and he should listen to them. Mr Yeddyurappa then shot back: “Can he (BJP general secretary H.N. Ananth Kumar ever be my friend? He was never my friend. As long as he is in Delhi and close to party central leaders, he will not allow me to live in peace here. It is because of him, I am in deep trouble today. It was he who prompted Justice Santosh Hegde to fabricate such a report against me. I agree that at one point, we (Mr Eshwarappa and Sadananda Gowda) were friends, but not anymore. This has been proved beyond doubt with all of you criticising me openly. Therefore, there is no point in staying with you," the source maintained quoting BSY.
According to the source, Mr Eshwarappa tried to console him saying the party would stand by him in the days to come but he should stop demanding ‘too much’ from the BJP. "We have come to you. You are our leader, stay with us. Don't try to destabilise the party you built in the last 40 years," the source said. Mr Yeddyurappa then reportedly retorted that he would prefer to trust ‘those friends’ who stood by him during a crisis than those backstabbed him at every step of his 40 year long journey in state politics. "Friends are not those who come to me to attain positions, but those who stood by me even before the crisis began and even now, when I am facing a deep crisis," the source added.
