In-house probe: Cops unprepared
Director-General of Police (CID) R.K. Dutta, who conducted an in-house inquiry, has justified the lathi-charge on advocates on March 2 at the City Civil Courts complex. However, the report also stated that a lathi-charge could have been avoided had the city police been more prepared.
The report was submitted to Home secretary S.M. Jamdar on Tuesday evening. It also said that though sufficient number of security personnel were deployed at the complex where former minister Janardhan Reddy was to be produced, the policemen were not ready for a law and order crisis.
Those deployed did not have helmets and guards to shield themselves from the stone-pelting. Meanwhile, the government on Tuesday issued show-cause notices to four senior officers, including two deputy commissioners, to explain the lack of timely and appropriate action in preventing the clashes between lawyers and media personnel on March 2.
This action followed the internal inquiry report by Mr Dutta, who held police officers responsible for failing to prevent and control the situation. The officers, who have to explain why action must not be taken against them for failure to prevent the arson, include DCP (Central) G. Ramesh, DCP Siddaramappa, ACP-Devanahalli P.S. Gacchinakatti and ACP Jitendranath.
