Home-alone student found murdered
A 19-year-old student was found brutally murdered at her home on 16th E Cross, Pai Layout, under Mahadevapura police limits on Wednesday afternoon. Police have identified the deceased as Monica Srivastava, a native of Varanasi in UP. Monica was staying with her sister Anjali Srivastava and their brother is pursuing his engineering. Their father died a year ago and the mother lives in Varanasi. Monica was pursuing her second semester BCom at Bangalore City College in Kalyannagar, Banaswadi.
According to her sister Anjali, who is working as a magazine editor with Anutone Acoustics Limited, Whitefield, Monica had left for exam around 9:30 am and returned home at 1:30 pm. At 2:30 pm, Monica told her that he had done well in her exam. She said she would put her mobile phone on silent mode and take rest. Around 6:30 pm, when Anjali got back home, she rang the doorbell, but there was no response. With the help of neighbours, she broke open the door only to find Monica’s body, with her neck slit, in the living area.
According to the house owner Mr Santosh, the sisters had rented his house two months back.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) Narasimhaiah said: “We suspect one or two persons entered the house. The possibility of murder for gain has been ruled out.” According to sources, a person repeatedly kept proposing to Monica which she refused.
