Hold your breath, it’s stinking here
They thought life would be easy away from the maddening traffic, noise and pollution of the city , but the people of Balaji Housing Layout in Vajarahalli, off Kanakapura Main Road, have realised of late that its not always possible to run away from problems as they have now been presented with a different set of troubles, that are almost as bad, if not worse .
Dr Ganesh Puttur moved to the layout three years years ago in quest of peace and quiet, leaving behind the luxury of better transportation facilities and proximity to malls in the more core areas of the city. While he was largely satisfied with his decision for some time, he is now beginning to question it as living in Balaji Housing Layout has become a nightmare over the last month on account of constant leaking of sewage from a nearby drain.
"The sewage let out by homes in Byannapalya and other apartments enters the storm water drain although this is an offence and stagnates in a pool right in front of our houses. The stench is unbearable and the sewage has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Our children cannot play on the street or in the park because of it. All we want to do is leave the area now, " says an upset Dr Puttur .
The residents , who are afraid of disease like malaria and dengue spreading among them, say they have complained several times to the BBMP , but no one has come to their rescue yet.
"If the leakage in the drain is not plugged, there's every chance of the sewage contaminating the drinking water in rain.
We are also having to put up with heaps of garbage lying on the roadside as it is not cleared, " Dr Puttur adds, lamenting that with the sewage stagnating near the park, its plants too are withering.
