HDK continues his tirade against Udasi

After former CM B.S. Yeddyurappa, it’s his close associate—public works minister C.M. Udasi—who has become a hot target for the JD(S) and its state president H.D. Kumaraswamy. The former CM claimed that Mr Udasi— who was earlier in the JD(U)—was trying to oust Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda as he did not want the large scale corruption in works carried out by his department to come to light. Without explicitly naming forest minister C.P. Yogeshwar, who had written a letter to Mr Sadananda Gowda, seeking a CID probe into irregularities in PWD projects in Ramanagara district, Mr Kumaraswamy said even Mr Udasi’s cabinet colleague had demanded an investigation.

“The PWD has become a den of corruption. There are complaints about the manner in which monthly bills of PWD contractors are cleared. The construction cost of Suvarna Soudha in Belgaum, which was pegged at Rs 236 crore, has now been revised to nearly Rs 500 crore. We want to know who is Mr Satish, who works in Mr Udasi’s office. Is he an official and what is the nature of work allocated to him? We will come out with the details shortly,’’ he said.

However, Mr Kumaraswamy has no plans to file a complaint with the Lokayukta as he feels it would be a futile exercise. “I know the state of the Lokayukta. Cases pertaining to BJP leaders are ending up in B-reports (a clean chit). We will take up this issue after the next elections and when a new government is in place. We will press for a probe into the functioning of the PWD,’’ he said.

When asked why the Deve Gowda family was being targeted for its ‘proximity’ to Mr Sadananda Gowda, the JD(S) leader said it might be because of the Vokkaliga factor. “Maybe, they (Yeddyurappa camp) could not find anything wrong with Mr Sadananda Gowda and started using us to scare BJP central leaders,’’ he remarked, adding, “The government is not bothered about people’s problems. When the state is reeling under drought, leaders are fighting for power. It would be better if the Assembly is dissolved and fresh polls are ordered.â€

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
