HC sets up committee to probe G-category sites
In a judgment of far-reaching consequences, at least for the 316 beneficiaries of BDA’s G-category sites, the high court on Saturday formed a three-member committee to examine such allotments. A division bench, headed by Justice K.L. Manjunath, passed the orders on a batch of petitions alleging that procedures were not followed when the sites under G-category were allotted.
The petitioners challenged the allotment of G-category sites between February 2, 2006 and October 8, 2007, stating that all such allotments were illegal and in contravention of BDA site allotment rules. A majority of the beneficiaries include high court judges, ministers, former chief ministers, sitting and former MLAs, MPs and MLCs and also distinguished personalities from various fields.
The court has directed the State to constitute the committee in two weeks comprising of two retired HC judges and another of the cadre of retired former secretary to the State government. The committee shall examine the case of each individual allottee on equity grounds. The government has been told to provide all facilities and infrastructure needed for the committee to function effectively. The committee has been asked to file a report within four months and all allottees have been directed to maintain status quo in respect of their properties.
