HC disposes of Nithya’s plea on closure of ashram
In a setback for controversial godman Nithyananda, the high court on Monday disposed of his petition seeking to lift the closure of his Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam ashram in Bidadi. The court quashed the plea after the state government submitted that it had already returned the keys of the ashram and had not locked any of the rooms as claimed by Nithyananda.
The state government took over and searched the ashram to find evidence on allegations that it was a den of immoral activities.Nithyananda had filed the petition seeking lifting of the seizure and claimed Rs10 crore damages from the government for allegedly damaging his property. The state government told the court that the Rs 10 crore sought by Nithyananda cannot be taken up with the present petition. Nithyananda had accused Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, the state government and a private news channel of trampling on his and ashramites’ rights.
