Graft alleged in film subsidy
The latest controversy, related to subsidy for Kannada films in 2009-10, is before the high court. The court has issued notices to the state government, director for department of information and publicity and the selection committee for the grant of subsidy of films for 2009-10. A petition alleged that the subsidy has been dished after bribes were paid. Several Sandalwood production houses led by Ramu enterprises, Tulaja Bhavani Creations, P2 Productions, Sudhakare films and others have approached the court. They are the producers of films like Kannadada Kiran Bedi, Karanji, Male Bille and Jeeva.
Ensure free flow of Kakkabe river: HC
The high court on Monday directed Kodagu deputy commissioner to ensure that the water flowing from Kakkabbe River is neither polluted nor diverted. A division bench noted that that it was one of the conditions imposed on Tamara Real Estate and Development Pvt Ltd for carrying out the activities of resort. Several villagers of Yavakapadi, Kunjila and Kakkabbe had filed the PIL.
Land returned to Beggars Colony
After taking back 123 acres of land housing the Karnataka Rehabilitation Centre, known as Beggars’ Colony from the BDA, the state on Monday submitted that it has further given back another 55 acres of land from the BDA. The court was hearing a PIL against BDA alleging that it was constructing a convention centre, a star hotel, commercial and retail centre, office space and entertainment centre on the land allotted for the beggar’s rehabilitation. The state government advocate on Monday submitted that the government has taken all steps to give effect to the courts order particularly for returning the land.
