Gowda faces road block even on last ride as CM
Kannada Rakshana Vedike and Vokkaliga leaders made a last ditch attempt to stop outgoing Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda from submitting his resignation by blocking the car of the CM at Anugraha, his residence on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister pacified the group saying it was the party which made him Chief Minister. “Now that the BJP central leadership has asked me to step down, I have to obey as a loyal party worker", he told the agitators. With the Kannada activists not willing to relent, the police had to intervene before the CM could come out of his residence and proceed to Raj Bhavan. Sources said the Chief Minister had earlier planned to go in a procession from Chalukya Circle to the Governor’s residence to put in his papers but dropped the idea after the agitation by the activists.
Several Gowda loyalists including Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri, Govind Karjol, C.P. Yogeshwar, Aravind Limbavali, Ravi Subramanya, M. Srinivas and Muniraju accompanied the CM. After submitting his resignation, Mr Gowda came out of Raj Bhavan in a private car. Speaking to reporters, he thanked senior leaders for giving him an opportunity to serve as CM. “I will provide all support to new CM Jagadish Shettar. I pray to goddess Chamundeshwari to give strength to Mr Shettar to run the government. I am confident he will overcome the problems and provide better governance", Mr Gowda said.
