Governor’s advice: Spend more time together, live for 100 years
Spend more time together and live to be a 100 years old. This was Governor H.R. Bhardwaj’s suggestion to elderly couples. He was speaking after conferring the K.M. Munshi award on Prof. G. Venkatasubbaiah who celebrated his 100th birthday on Thursday, at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
“After reaching 70-80 years, the husband and wife start to behave like they do not know each other. They spend more time with their children and grandchildren. This leads to loneliness among the aged. If every couple gives enough time to each other, as they vowed at the time of marriage, people can lead a healthy, cheerful life and a long life”, he said.
Mr Bhardwaj spoke at length about family life and values. “Today’s couples do not give enough time to their partners. This is the major reason for conflicts in family life. If the husband and wife talk to each other a lot, then there will not be any problem at all”, he said. “Prof. G. Venkatasubbaiah is celebrating his 100th birthday today. He told me that he spends two hours every day with his wife. If he spends four hours per day with his wife, he will live for 150 years”, he remarked. He also heaped praise on
Kannada and Karnataka.
