Get those tinted windshields cleared within next 15 days
With the Supreme Court issuing orders prohibiting the use of dark tinted films on the front and rear windscreens and side windows of all vehicles, the Bengaluru police have given 15 days to vehicle owners remove such material or films. Thereafter, cases will be booked against violating drivers, said a release by city police commissioner.
“Penalty will be imposed on offenders and vehicles will also be liable for seizure for failure to remove the dark tinted films,” the police said. The Supreme Court had directed all the states should enforce the order with effect from May 4, 2012. “The manufacturer of the vehicle may manufacture vehicles with tinted glasses which have Visual Light Transmission (VLT) of safety glasses windscreen (front and rear) as 70 per cent and side glasses as 40 per cent VLT, respectively. No black film or any other material can be pasted on the windscreens and side glasses of a vehicle,” the SC ruled in its order.
However, in the case of VIPs/VVIPs using dark tinted films on their vehicles for security reasons, the SC has not passed any directions citing that the issue of security and safety is left to the police department and Home ministry, who can consider such exemption appropriate.
