FIR against Vokkaliga seer

The Lokayukta police have registered an FIR against Adichunchanagiri Math seer Balagangadharanatha Swami for allegedly encroaching upon 15.31 acres of government land, allegedly by means of forgery. The complainant in the case, ex-corporator Lakshminarayana, alleged that Balagangadharanatha swami created a fake government order to encroach upon the priced land in Hulimavu, close to Meenakshi Temple on Bannerghatta Road, and also illegally constructed multi-storeyed school building.

The accused named in the FIR are Balagangadharanatha Swami, Parashantanatha Swami, Purushotthamanandanatha Swami, Dr Sunil Babu of Adichunchanagiri Math and government officials Veerabhadraiah, the then DC-land acquisitions, BDA, Rame Gowda, the then special DC, Bengaluru Urban, among others. The complainant stated that the land was granted to the Ramalingeshwara Swamy Temple trust by the State government in 1981 (6 acres) and 1985 (9.31 acres).

The complainant stated that the temple is an ancient one situated inside a natural cave on an area of 1.5 acres. The State government also granted an additional 10 guntas of land to drill a borewell. According to the complainant, one Mariyappa Swamy, who claimed to be the president of the temple trust, conspired to negotiate the trust property with Balagangadharanatha Swami through an agreement. Mariyappa Swamy passed away two weeks ago, the complainant said. The DC, Mr Veerabhadraiah, allowed the transfer of temple land based on the alleged fake government order. The remaining 10 guntas of land, close to Meenakshi Mall on Bannerghatta Road, was sold by Balagangadharanatha Swami to Mariyappa Swamy.

The complainant alleged that Balagangadharanatha Swami held no title for this land, but still executed a sale deed in favour of Mariyyapa Swamy for Rs 54.45 lakh in cash. Lokayukta special court judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao had ordered the police to take up investigation in the case under section 156 (3) of CrPC. The court had directed the police to submit a report by July 13.
