The police suspect that an ex-boyfriend murdered shoe company worker Divya, who was brutally attacked and killed on a crowded road in BTM Layout on Monday evening.

MICO Layout police, who are investigating the case, are hunting for Divya’s friend Ranjith and his accomplice, who came on a two-wheeler and attacked her with a machete.

The police said Ranjith swung the weapon at the 23-year-old girl, a native of Udupi, while his accomplice, who was wearing a full-faced helmet, was riding the motorbike.

They have recovered the machete used in the crime, but are yet to establish the identity of Ranjith’s accomplice.

The cops summoned Ranjith’s parents, who are staying at Kalkere, and questioned them about his possible hideouts.

His parents told the police that Divya had been to their house a few times, but
they were unaware of the developments in the relationship.

The police suspect that Divya and Ranjith probably got close when they were studying at SSMRV College and went around for about three years. Ranjith, who was a BCom dropout, worked with a BPO for a short duration.

He quit recently and was unemployed. He wanted to get married to Divya, but she allegedly was seen more often with her relative Pradeep, who moved from Hyderabad to work in a private company.

Two weeks ago, Ranjith called Pradeep over phone and threatened him not to meet Divya as she was his girlfriend.

On Monday night, Divya was returning home from work when she was hacked to death by the two bike-borne assailants on the 7th cross of BTM Layout. She worked in Suddagunte-palya and stayed at N.S. Palya with her parents.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
