Drunk men refuse to pay, thrash toll collector
A group of seven to eight men allegedly thrashed a toll collector at the toll gate near Nelamangala just after midnight on Monday.
They came in an SUV to the toll gate around 1 am, and told the toll collector, Lokesh, that they will not pay as one of them was a corporator.
Lokesh insisted on seeing their ID proof. One of them gave a visiting card which carried a photograph and mentioned the name of a corporator. But Lokesh raised suspicion as none of them resembled the man in the photograph.
At this, a scuffle broke out and the group thrashed Lokesh. While few punched Lokesh on his face through the glass window, two others got into the toll collection room and smashed his face with a table fan. Lokesh sustained injuries on his head, hand and face. The group vanished along with the visiting card.
The entire act of violence was recorded in the CCTV placed inside the toll collection room. A complaint has been lodged at the Nelamangala Rural police station.
Lokesh said the group also attacked another toll gate staffer outside the booth. The Nelamangala rural police said the attackers were drunk and abused Lokesh for questioning their identity.
