DNA test links Pascal to victim

The confidential DNA report of French consulate official Pascal Mazurier, arrested on charges of raping his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, has reportedly nailed him on one count and “spared” him on the other. “There is no evidence of spermatic fluid on the foreside and backside of the swabs of the victim but the stain on the garments matches the DNA of the accused – Mr. Mazurier,” said a highly placed source.
According to an official source, the DNA report reveals that the vaginal and anal swabs of the victim do not have the spermatic fluid. But the semen stains on the victim’s clothes, worn at the time of alleged crime, matches with Mr. Mazurier’s DNA. “Traces of sperm are found in the private parts of the victim only if there is a penetration,” the officer said. The DNA report was submitted to the investigating officer – Assistant Commissioner of Police D. Devaraj – on Friday in a sealed cover. Sources said the police may ask the DNA laboratory in Madiwala some additional key questions to finalise the crucial aspect of investigation. “The report is not inconclusive, but since it is a very sensitive case involving an alleged abuse of a minor, we need to take all aspects of the investigation into consideration,” said an official source.
The police will examine the doctors at Baptist Hospital, who are the witnesses as they examined the victim first. The investigation team will also interrogate the accused, the complainant, the NGOs who had initially helped the complainant and the circumstantial evidence before coming to any conclusion. The police had collected the swabs from the Collaborative Child Response Unit at the Baptist Hospital, which had first conducted the medical examination of the child on June 13 and reportedly certified that she was raped. A day later, Mr. Mazurier’s wife, Ms. Suja Jones, had lodged a complaint at the High Grounds police station against her husband under Section 376 IPC alleging rape.
