DJ complains traffic cops thrashed him
Just days after an advertising executive and her friend were harassed by the traffic police, there are reports of a disc jockey being brutally beaten up by the traffic police in the city. The higher-ups have now ordered an inquiry into the incident. The DJ, Sasha Sambi, has complained that he and his wife Tina were stopped at the Wind Tunnel Road-Old Airport Road junction around 12.30 am on September 30 by the traffic police for drunken driving check.
“The constable extended the alcohol content detecting device towards my wife without any intimation and rudely said ‘blow into this. She did twice. Probably it showed no alcohol content and the constable raised his voice and said ‘blow properly'. This is when I got down from the vehicle and asked the policeman to lower his threatening voice. He retaliated by pushing and kicking me. Another seven to eight constables joined him and slapped, kicked and rained blows with the lathis on me. I tried to run, but I could not. At no point, did I try to hit any of the policemen. They dragged me to an autorickshaw parked nearby and pushed me into it. When I looked around for my wife, I realised that she was being pushed away from the car and the keys were being taken,” Sasha said in his complaint.
On Wednesday, Sasha submitted the complaint to Additional Commissioner of Police (law and order) T. Suneel Kumar. It was forwarded to Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.A. Saleem. He said, “We have taken note of the complaint. It is a serious issue and we have ordered an inquiry, headed by the ACP (South East). Based on his report, action will be taken.”
