The Mico Layout police on Friday arrested Ranjith (24), who had managed to escape after brutally murdering his girl friend Divya (23) on the evening of May 28, along with his associate Bhuvanesh (24), from Hosur.

According to police, Ranjith had murdered Divya because she broke up with him and was to get engaged to another person, identified as Pradeep.

Divya had met Ranjith when she was pursuing her graduation from VET College in J.P. Nagar. Ranjith was her senior and they fell in love and planned to marry. Divya used to often visit Ranjith’s house and it is said that both Divya as well as Ranjith’s parents had even agreed to get them married.

However, things turned sour when Ranjith failed his BCom exams and could not find a suitable job. Divya, however, started working for Astro Miller Shoe Company as a computer operator. Since she wanted to settle down with someone who had a stable job, she broke up with Ranjith.

Recently, Divya’s relative Deepak, from Hyderabad, had introduced Pradeep, a resident of Banashankari to her. Pradeep spoke to Divya’s parents and her parents were contemplating getting her engaged to him. This did not go down well with Ranjith. He allegedly threatened her saying that he would not spare her if she married anyone else.

On May 19, Ranjith allegedly called up Praveen and told him not to marry Divya as he loved her. However, Pradeep said he would discuss it with Divya’s parents and disconnected the phone. It was then that Ranjith decided to murder Divya.

He then got in touch with his friend Bhuvanesh, a habitual offender, and plotted the murder. The duo even bought some weapons from a shop in Majestic. They initially planned to kill her on May 25 and tried again on May 26, but were unsuccessful.

On the evening of May 28, they went close to her office in Suddaguntepalya and after she left office, lay in wait for her near 7th Cross, BTM II Stage. Around 6.45 pm, when Divya was walking along the road, Ranjith hacked her with a sword. She sustained severe injuries and died on her way to hospital. Ranjith and Bhuvanesh managed to escape and have been absconding.

According to sources, after the incident, Ranjith reportedly called up his brother and told him that he also would commit suicide.

The police, who got to know about it, wanted to arrest him alive. A special team went through Ranjith’s call records and tracked down all his friends. During their questioning, police found that Ranjith and Bhuvanesh were in Hosur and arrested them on Friday

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
