Did she stage her own kidnap to help her husband out of a financial crisis? Vishnu Vandana, the 47-year-old daughter of former Koppal MP, Mr H.G. Ramulu, who was traced to Chennai a day after she was reportedly kidnapped from the Jayanagar Shopping Complex, had allegedly staged her kidnap to help her husband Ravikumar, a businessman, come out of a huge debt running into crores.

The city police were flummoxed after they found Vishnu Vandana alone near Chennai railway station, leading to suspicion that the whole episode may have been staged.

Vandana’s ‘kidnappers’ had reportedly demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh from Ravikumar. What gave her away were the calls she made from her mobile number. She was expected to be brought to Benagluru by Tuesday evening and questioned.

“As of now, no inference can be drawn on her alleged kidnap. She is being brought back and we will have to question her. There is a case of kidnapping already registered based on the complaint by her husband. However, there was no call for ransom from anyone after she went missing”, DCP-South Sonia Narang said. Ravi Kumar, along with his father-in-law Mr Ramulu, had lodged a complaint with Jayanagar police on Monday night. A senior police official said Mr Ravi Kumar will also be questioned once Vishnu Vandana is brought back.
