Debt-ridden stock broker tries to kill friend for money, ends life
A 42-year-old man, who was deep in debt, committed suicide on Sunday after his plan to rob money from his friend went awry. The deceased has been identified as Lokesh, a resident of Vijayanagar. Lokesh was a share broker and incurred huge losses through bad investments and was constantly being haunted by his customers. Unable to bear the humiliation before his two daughters and wife, he shifted to Yeshwantpur, while the family continued to stay at Vijaynagar. He was staying as paying guest along with a friend Jayashankar.
However, there too, he had many people coming looking for him. Lokesh was constantly looking for ways to get money to pay back his debts. On Saturday, he came to know that his friend Jayashankar had `50,000 in his possession. “He hatched a plan to rob Jayashankar and run away. However, the plan did not work. Early on Sunday, Lokesh assaulted Jayashankar with a crowbar. But when the latter started bleeding, Lokesh got scared and, in the melee, a table in the room fell on the floor. Hearing the loud noise, the others in paying guest accommodation woke up and started knocking on the door,” the officer said.
Lokesh, who thought that he had killed Jayashankar, locked the room and hung himself from the fan. The other occupants informed the police. “By the time the police arrived and broke open the door, Lokesh had killed himself. Jayashankar was immediately rushed to a private hospital where he is undergoing treatment,” police said. Yeshwantpur police have registered a case and sent the body to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital for autopsy.
