Congress leader DKS charged, ex-CM off hook
Spelling more trouble for Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar, the Lokayukta police on Thursday filed a preliminary chargesheet against him for purchasing notified land Benniganahalli, getting it converted for residential purpose and later getting it denotified during the term of ex-CM B.S. Yeddyurappa.
The chargersheet was filed in respect of two cases, one filed by T.J. Abraham and another by Kabbalegowda. The case has been adjourned to July 3. Apart from Mr Shivakumar, the chargesheet has named the then Special DC Dr Ramegowda, senior sub-registrar Hameed Ali, retired tahsildar Hanumanth, retired revenue inspector S. Chandrashekaraiah, village accountant Doddahanumaiah and the original land owner B.K. Srinivas, for irregularities in the conversion and denotification of land. B.K. Srinivas died in 2005.
Though the complaint had also named B.S. Yeddyurappa as one of the accused, his name has been dropped from the chargesheet, as the police did not find evidence that he had ordered denotification of land with any intent to misuse power. No charges have been brought against MLC Lehar Singh either who had been named in the complaint as accused. The private complainants also alleged irregularities in five housing societies of Jayanagar, Shantinagar, Bhavani, Vyalikaval and National Technological Institutions (NTI) still being investigated by the police.
Mahantesh case report
The State government on Thursday filed a status report in the HC regarding the murder a 48-year-old deputy director with Co-operative Societies Audit Department, S.P. Mahantesh. Police said the chargesheet will be submitted against the accused in the case at the earliest. A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen, has adjourned the case to August 2.
