Clean city by evening: BBMP
A day after the governor and chief secretary came down heavily on the BBMP, the civic body intensified its garbage clearance drive and promised to clean up the city by Sunday evening. BBMP Commissioner M. K. Shankarlinge Gowda on Saturday took stock of the garbage clearance drive in the city. During his inspection, he was shocked to find huge mounds of garbage on the footpaths on M.N. Krishna Rao Road. He alighted from his vehicle and directed the official concerned to clear it. The garbage situation at S.P. Road, which is a stone’s throw away from the BBMP headquarters, was horrible and the commissioner rang up the official concerned and directed him to remove it immediately.
At Shivaji Road in Shivaji Nagar, the stench of garbage was unbearable and Mr Gowda directed BBMP joint commissioner (East) Mr Shivashankar to clear the garbage on a war-footing. However, the situation was getting better with the BBMP starting to clear garbage across the city. The civic body also made alternate arrangement like sending extra garbage to Mandur and Terra Firma and by identifying an abandoned quarry to dump the waste.
