CISF faces flak for lack of coordination
The Buela Sam case has shown the CISF in poor light for more than one reason. While it is facing flak for allowing a stranger into an Isro guest house on the basis of a fake ID, its lack of coordination with the city police is not winning it any friends either. Security officers at Isro’s facility who found the fake ID on Ms Buela Sam merely sent the inspector on duty to the JB Nagar police station to lodge a complaint and all that the police inspector there did was treat it like any other case and produce the woman before the magistrate.
In fact, the city police commissioner himself was briefed about the FIR lodged by the JB Nagar police only on Monday afternoon, a day after the woman was handed over to judicial custody. The police took Buela into its custody only on Tuesday, further establishing that senior police officers were not kept in the loop about the sensitivity of the case. This explains the silence on the case since September 22, the day the CISF inspector lodged a complaint with the JB Nagar police station. “Periodical meetings do take place with different agencies on the security front. But when it comes to security issues at sensitive establishments, information is still shared on the need-to-know basis,’’ said a senior police officer With the top brass of the police in the dark, most police officials in the entire east and north divisions around JC Nagar, spent September 22, 23 and 24 monitoring Ganesha processions.
