CBI hints at BSY’s custodial interrogation
The CBI hinted at custodial interrogation of former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, accused of allegedly denotifying lands illegally and receiving pecuniary gratification for issuing mining licenses. The CBI advocate on Monday made the submission before the high court, which is hearing the anticipatory bail plea of Mr Yeddyurappa. The hearing was adjourned to Tuesday. The CBI made the submission when the high court wanted to know what was delaying the investigation when the case was filed on May 15. When the CBI advocate submitted that the accused were providing evasive answers, during the investigation, Mr Yeddyurappa’s advocate objected.
He said it is an unfair submission and that it cannot be the ground for the CBI to arrest the accused and make them admit the accusations under force. The court asked whether the CBI could file a fresh FIR as an FIR with similar allegations was before the court. The argument of Mr Yeddyurappa’s advocates was that the CEC had already made recommendations for a CBI probe to the Supreme Court based on a Lokayukta report on mining and private complaints on similar allegations.
“The high court has already granted advance and regular bail along with quashing a portion of the Lokayukta report that accused him of corruption while granting mining leases in favour of two companies, the sanction given by the Governor to prosecute him and the FIR registered by the Lokayukta police against him,” Mr Ashok Harnahalli said
