Cash van driver escapes with Rs39 lakh after threatening staff
A replacement driver for a cash van belonging to CMS security agency, which was carrying nearly Rs1 crore to be deposited in State Bank of India ATMs in Yelahanka, escaped with Rs39 lakh after forcing the two cash custodians and the gunman to get off the vehicle, on Friday.
Curiously, no one from the security agency knows the name of the driver.
The vehicle owner Chandrashekar, who was the regular driver, had sent a replacement as he had taken ill. However, the three victims gave conflicting statements to the police.
One of them claimed that they were forced to get off near Gangammanagudi and the driver drove away towards Peenya. But the other two claim that they were pushed out of the van near Hosakote on Kolar main road.
“We are questioning Chandrashekar to ascertain the identity of the driver”, police said. A special team has been set up to nab the suspects and recover the money, police said.
