BSY supporters give new twist to SC observation
With the Supreme Court-constituted Central Empowered Committee (CEC) recommending a CBI probe against former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa in the mining related land deal case, panicky supporters of the beleagured leader got into damage-control mode by interpreting the oral observation of Chief Justice of India S.H. Kapadia as stating that the Supreme Court had, in fact, rejected the CEC recommendation.
Following media reports which said that it would be the end of the road for the former CM if the Supreme Court indeed ordered for a CBI probe, supporters of Mr Yeddyurappa quickly jumped into action to counter it, stating that the Supreme Court has rejected the CEC report in view of a Special Leave Petition (SLP) which was filed challenging the High Court order quashing Chapter 22 of the Lokayukta report.
Mr Yeddyurappa’s staunch supporters were also apprehensive that other MLAs who are supporting him may switch sides and identify themselves with the opposite camp instead, if the Supreme Court does order a CBI probe. To hold the flock together, the SC observation was interpreted differently, sources said. To buttress their claim, they even said that Mr Yeddyurappa’s advocate Prabhulinga Navadgi and his son Mr B.Y.Vijayendra were present in the court hall when the during CJI passed the order. Mr Yeddyurappa’s aide B.J. Puttaswamy even came on record stating that the Supreme Court has declined to accept CEC report.
