‘BSY’s convoy intimidates people’
A senior counsel has filed a memo before the Lokayukta special court, seeking directions to security officers in the convoy attached to former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to behave responsibly and stop driving recklessly. Advocate Nitin, been appearing for complainant Sirajin Basha in the land denotification case against Mr Yeddyurappa, filed the memo. "Security officials, part of the convoy accompanying Accused No. 1 (Yeddyurappa), behave irresponsibly and resort to intimidating tactics to shoo away other vehicles (including that of the advocate's) while coming to the court for the case.''
He said that four sports utility vehicles, all attached to the police force and carrying red beacon lights, threatened motorists on Hosur road and came too close to the taxi in which he was traveling. Two other police vehicles, both Toyota Innovas, deliberately almost brushed past his taxi.
“Traffic policemen had been deputed all along the Hosur road and even on smaller roads leading up to the Parappana Agrahara prison. These traffic policemen push all the other vehicles to the middle of the road, when the convoy is approaching. My taxi was stopped, though it was far ahead of the convoy. The taxi driver slowed down, but two convoy cars coming from behind almost brushed our car,” he told Deccan Chronicle.
He told the court that as the incident did not have any direct link with the merits of the case, only a memo was filed in public interest and also to ensure a proper conduct of the security officials.
“I thought several times before making such a submission as we are not claiming that it was a deliberate attempt to threaten us. I request the court to issue suitable directions to the convoy of security officials in accordance with the conduct expected of a public servant,” the advocate said. Mr Yeddyurappa’s counsel, present during the submission, said the BJP leader has been provided Z-plus category security. But Mr Nitin objected, saying why was such a high-level security is being provided to a former chief minister. Special court Judge N.K. Sudhindra Rao said the matter will be taken up in the next hearing.
