BSY party set to split bjp down the middle?
With behind-the-scene efforts on to rope in BJP MPs for the controversial foreign direct investment (FDI) bill ahead of the crucial winter session of parliament, the BJP unit in the state could see a split right down the middle.
Sources in Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) said former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had reportedly expressed his desire to support the bill, and five Members of Parliament of BJP were willing to go along. Die-hard supporters of BSR Congress leader B. Sreeramulu are also keen to back the Congress. Such a move would ensure cross-voting much to the chagrin of Opposition parties which intend to put the government on the mat on the issue of FDI in the retail sector.
Sources said this would be similar to moves initiated by the Congress ahead of voting on the crucial civilian nuclear deal a couple of years ago.
