BSY to move HC on bail norms?

Former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa likely to move an application before the Karnataka high court in a day or two, seeking relaxation of his bail conditions to enable him embark on a state-wide tour.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a source close to the Lingayat strongman, said, “Mr Yeddyurappa is eagerly waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision on the CBI’s plea to quash the anticipatory bail granted to him in the illegal mining case. The hearing of this plea is scheduled for Monday, so, he will wait till then and move the application depending on the apex court’s decision.”

The source claimed that Mr Yeddyurappa was confident of a positive decision and had already directed his political managers to prepare a detailed tour plan. The fact that his son and Shimoga MP, B.Y. Raghavendra had sought relaxation of bail conditions from the high court to visit his constituency, Shimoga for three days, and got it, has added to his confidence levels.

“It’s not the question of securing bail relaxation that worries him, he is more concerned about the issues he will have to raise during the tour. One key campaign point will be targeting the state bureaucracy for not being able to tackle the drought situation properly which will also serve his purpose of indirectly targeting his ministerial colleagues in the rival camp. Secondly, he wil make his supporters ask the public why he should be denied a prime position in the party or government for merely getting caught in a political conspiracy, hatched by his detractors in the BJP and his opponents. This will help him mould public opinion in his favour and strengthen his claim to the party chief’s post in the days to come,” the source explained.

It may be recalled that the Karnataka High Court on July 26, had granted anticipatory bail to Mr Yeddyurappa in connection with a mining and land scam case. But the court laid down strong conditions including one that he cannot go out of Bengaluru city.
