BMTC maps out your daily commute
Locating a bus on a particular route has been made easier with BMTC introducing measures like Google Transit and BTIS on its website to help commuters find buses. You just need to type the source and the destination and you will get the route number of buses, timings and all the relevant information that will make commuting on BMTC easy.
Google India and BMTC have come together to provide bus schedules and routes of Vajra, Vayu Vajra and Big10 buses via Google Maps over desktop and mobiles.
With a daily ridership of approximately 4.2 million passengers, BMTC is the first bus service in the country to launch on Google Maps. BMTC and Google worked together closely to get the bus routes formatted in the Google Transit Feed specification and also align the bus routes to the actual roads on the map, thereby delivering a better experience to users.
How does it work?
Google Transit provides information on bus routes and timings to commuters through Google Maps.
One can log on to http://www.bmtcinfo.com/site/index.jsp and go to route search option which has Google Transit. The initiative has been worked out for commuters who do not know which route number plies to where, or, if someone missed a bus, when can he get the next bus to reach his destination.
Commuters can access information like frequency of buses, route and time duration to reach a destination.
The application is available free of cost and users can access it on desktops as well as their mobile phones.
How you can access information?
There is an option to select source and destination on the Google Transit application. For example, in the ‘Source’ option, type the origin, for instance, Bannerghatta Road. In the ‘Destination’ option, type the final destination, like Brigade Road. Click on the ‘Go’ option and in a few seconds you will be provided with the bus number which, in this case, is G4 Big10 us.
The website will display following details
• Bus Schedule: G4
• Depart from: Brigade Road (St Patrick’s Church)
• Arrive at: Bannerghatta
• Route Map (Option can be clicked to see the route)
Similarly, if you know the bus number, type the bus number in ‘Bus Number Search’ option. As you put the number and click on ‘Go’ option, you will get the route the bus takes.
