BMTC driver held on rape charge
A BMTC bus driver-cum-conductor was arrested by the Yeshwanthapur police on charges of rape. Police have identified the accused as Sidharth (29), a resident of Chikkasandra and a native of Davanagere. For the last four years, he has been working as driver-conductor in the 7th, 8th, 17th and 30th depots of the BMTC.
According to the police, on May 15, a woman approached Yeshwanthapur police and filed a compliant against Sidharth stating that he had allegedly cheated her and attempted to rape her.
According to her complaint, she first met Sidharth in a BMTC bus after attending an interview and was on her way back home.
They later became friends and Sidharth told her that BMTC had a lot of vacancies and promised to get her a job. He also took a photo copy of her B.Com marks card saying he would get back to her.
On the evening of May 15, when she called Sidharth to enquire about the job, he allegedly said that the appointment order was with him and asked her to collect it from his residence on Tumkur Road near Hesaraghatta junction.
When the victim reached there, he took her to Yeshwanthapur BMTC bus stop on his bike where he attempted to rape her. In the process, he also snatched her gold chain and escaped after locking her up in a dark room.
The victim however managed to come out with the help of other BMTC staff and then approached the police and filed a complaint. Based on her complaint, police have arrested him. Police also said that the accused used to employ the same modus operandi on other girls.
Initially, he would befriend them by not letting them buy a ticket and would later cheat them. He would allegedly take the victims to isolated places in Jnanabharathi, Hesaraghatta, and Vijayanagar and take advantage.
