BJP dangles carrot of hope?
The BJP national general secretary, in charge of Karnataka, Dharmendra Pradhan, will convey a message on the leadership issue from senior central leaders of the party during a meeting with former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa at his Race Course Road residence, on Sunday.
Sources in the party said Mr Yeddyurappa cut short his tour of drought-hit areas and returned to Bengaluru on Saturday evening in view of the significant meeting with Mr Pradhan. The former chief minister would resume his tour of scarcity-affected areas after the departure of Mr Pradhan, the sources added.
But they declined to divulge the nature of talks to be held on Sunday. One possibility is that Mr Pradhan could convey a message based on the feedback received from rank and file of the party on the issue of change in leadership. “Mr Pradhan will hold talks with all stakeholders in the party,” said a BJP senior functionary. Mr Pradhan, however, will not be able to meet Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who is away on a tour of drought-hit districts, sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said. Soon after his return to Bengaluru, Mr. Yeddyurappa told reporters that he did not see the need to call a meeting of ministers, legislators and other supporters at this juncture.
