BJP can’t win elections without me, gloats BSY
Dropping enough hints that his leadership is indispensable to the BJP to register a victory in the Assembly elections next year, former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa indirectly questioned the ability of Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and State BJP president K.S. Eshwarappa to lead the party at the hustings.
Asserting that he was saddened by the outcome of the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha by-election, in which the BJP suffered a humiliating defeat, Mr Yeddyurappa called upon the party leadership to introspect on the result. Claiming that this was the first election campaign he skipped in his four-decade-long political career, he said: “I did so because I was pained by Mr Sadananda Gowda’s statement, after I got a clean chit from the high court, that eight cases were still pending against me. I did not want to embarrass the party by campaigning”.
On taking his loyalists to a resort, Mr Yeddyurappa said it was meant to prove his strength as statements were being issued that he had only 10-15 MLAs with him. “I was not happy with the step I had taken, but it was inevitable to demonstrate our unity and also strength,” he said.
