Bidari withdraws plea; HC reserves order
Top cop Shankar M. Bidari on Friday withdrew his plea in the Karnataka High Court seeking a change in the bench hearing the case against the court order quashing his appointment as DG&IGP. With this, the high court also dismissed the plea to initiate contempt proceedings against him.
The court reserved its judgment on the petitions by the state government and Mr Bidari, who will retire less than a week, for Monday. The arguments before the bench headed by Justice N. Kumar concluded on Friday. The same bench had earlier quashed Bidari’s appointment on March 30 as DG&IGP.
The contempt petition had been filed by the present DG&IGP A.R. Infant Advocate for Mr Infant, Uday Holla, argued that Mr Bidari was not fit for the post as members of the Special Task Force, during his tenure as its head, were accused of committing atrocities against tribals and women.
